Awaaz - November 9th & 10th, 2012
There are few feelings in the world better than performing an 8 minute set as a featured act on the Page Auditorium stage in front of 1,232 people (but more specifically your friends and family that made a long trip just to come see you perform). Awaaz is a once-in-a-lifetime type experience, but at Duke we have the blessing of doing it for four years. For the seniors, the last Awaaz means even more. For two nights, Dhamaka lit it up on stage. With new dancers as well as alumni who did everything they could to keep up with the new-age firepower, Dhamaka put together a performance that created a buzz on campus for the next several days. From a traditional intro respecting the victims of the terrorist attacks against Sikhs in America, to the hot arsenal of stunts and gimmicks to keep the crowd entertained, Awaaz 2012 was absolutely nuts. This Awaaz was especially special, with the Dhamaka boys participating in a collaboration with Duke Irish Dance, and with all of the seniors choreographing Senior Bhangra sections! Can't wait to see what next year brings!
Chicago PCS (Competition) - November 3rd, 2012 - *2nd Place*
With five new competing dancers and a competition lineup filled with some of the nation's best teams, Chicago was supposed to be a weekend full of firsts, where the new dancers would gain experience dancing on stage and our team would grow closer as a unit. While the competition weekend accomplished each of those goals, it took a huge turn for the better when they announced Dhamaka's 2nd place finish behind only AEG. This competition was an incredible kick-off to our semester, helped us prepare and get our confidence up for Awaaz the next week, and more than anything else, turned into a weekend most of us will never forget. Homecoming 2012 - September 21st, 2012
Each year, President Broadhead hosts the Homecoming Ball in Wilson Gym. Once again, Duke Dhamaka had the privileged of being invited to headline the ball as the show's final act. Dhamaka not only lived up to the hype of the headlining position, but it put on a show that captured the attention of the hundreds in attendance. A special shout-out to the first time Dhamakans dancing after only 2 weeks of practice: Aarti Asrani, Janani Arangan, Pranava Raparla, and Sarah McCaffery. As always, Dhamaka brought the fire at Homecoming, and got our semester off to an incredible start! Check out our performance here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q3QyY9GlQFw
Duke Dance Council Showcase - August 30th, 2012
Duke Dhamaka performed for the first time of the 2012-2013 season at the Duke Dance Council's inaugural showcase of each dance group. With an abbreviated lineup dancing to a shortened and heavily remixed set, this performance was one for the ages. The dancers were incredibly inspired, the crowd was hype as ever (going crazy with the hip-hop laced mix and the powerful execution), and everyone left the auditorium fully understanding Dhamaka's relevance in the world of Duke Dance. Download our mix here and we will put up videos and pictures as soon as they are made available to us! http://soundcloud.com/duke-dhamaka/duke-dhamaka-dance-council
